No one begins as an expert DIYer, so casually upcycling an old trampoline to make a porch swing might not be the project you want to tackle first. But, if you happen to have a vintage globe around that you're thinking about tossing, reconsider!
People all over the Internet are turning their old globes into chic pendant lights to brighten up their offices, dens, and even dining rooms. If you're looking for a craft that'll spice up a space without (1) breaking the bank, or (2) looking like a toddler did it themselves, this could be your answer. Essentially, most tutorials come down to a few simple steps, which I'll outline below.
How To Make A Globe Pendant Lamp
- Remove the globe from the metal stand.
- Place the globe in a bowl to keep it from rolling around as you work.
- Cut an opening in the top of the globe (Pro tip: Use the Arctic Circle as a general guide).
- Flip it over and repeat the same step for the bottom of the globe, but this hole should be the size of your pendant light.
- Use sandpaper to scrape away any rough edges around the openings.
- Drill holes into the globe on your favorite cities, so the light shines through your favorite places.
- Feed the pendant light through the holes.
- Add an LED bulb (these don't get as hot when left on).
- Hang it!
